The Liberal Studies major is a California Commission on Teacher Credentialing-approved subject matter program that provides teachers with a strong grounding in a wide range of academic disciplines needed to become effective teachers. In fact, the term “liberal” comes from the Latin word for freedom, so liberal studies can be understood as the acquisition of knowledge that can enrich human freedom or guide the wise use of it. Career and academic planning, co-curricular, extra-curricular opportunities, and pathway into a K-8 teaching profession. The core courses will give you a strong foundation in the humanities, natural sciences and social sciences that will help you draw connections and develop a comprehensive worldview.
